Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What kind of internet connection will we need?
A: For administrator workstations, you will want to have as fast a connection as possible in order to efficiently download and manage the large volume of data. User workstations will need only a 28.8 modem connection or better.

Q: What kind of computer hardware and/or software will we need?
A: Each user should have access to a PC that can support Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, or Netscape 4.0. Omega's recommended minimum platform is Pentium 133, with 32 MB of memory and screen resolution of 800 x 600.

Q: How will we be assured that test data is secure?
A: Access to the test and to the data is password protected. Utilizing Omega-hosted Internet delivery, the server is also password protected. The data on the server is backed-up every night.

Q: How will we be assured that our network is protected?
A: There is no executable programming code that will be downloaded to your machines, thus no possibility of compromising the security of your network. Your institution's administrator will be able to generate reports using a program called Crystal Reports. This program is widely available as an off-the-shelf application.

Q: What database format is used?
A: Our implementation uses a Microsoft SQL Server database. The data can also be easily exported into Microsoft Access format.

Q: How will the scoring be done? Will users be able to see their scores immediately?
A: Scores are automatically calculated when a user completes a module of questions. Users will be able to see their scores at the end of modules. While a user is working in a module of questions, the user can answer questions in any order and change any answer. However, once a user completes or exits a module, he or she will not be allowed to return to it.

Q: How easy/difficult will it be to integrate data into our database?
A: The ease or difficulty of integrating data into the institution's database depends on the format requested. The data can easily be exported to Microsoft Access format and other ODBC-Compliant database formats.

Q: How will we capture and extract this data? In what format?
A: Four standard reports will be available online using Crystal Reports. As a custom option, Omega can also prepare and send the institution tailored reports.

Q: Can we deliver this over our intranet?
A: Yes. As a custom option, Omega can install the Credit Skills Assessment on an institution's intranet. Omega will develop a solution that best meets the specific needs of your organization.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: Credit Skills Assessment - Online is priced on a per-user-license basis. There is a single price that includes access to the assessment and interface tools, including rights to use Omega's intellectual content (questions, answers, etc.) and all of Omega's standard Credit Skills Assessment questions and answers. This will include all features including user registration, enrollment, automated scoring, bookmarking, standard reports, and tech support. If you want to add or edit your own questions, you will be able to do so for a modest additional fee.
